Graduate candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. PhD candidates must have a master’s degree in a related discipline.

Once you’ve submitted your admission application, you will be able to upload supporting materials through your account by clicking “submit required items.” These include the following materials. The letters of reference, statement of goals, résumé and writing sample can be submitted via Tyler’s application portal.

Supporting Materials

Three letters of recommendation should be obtained from college/university faculty members, gallery directors and/or curators familiar with the applicant’s academic and artistic competence.

In 500 to 1,000 words, describe your interest in the program, research goals, future career goals, academic and research achievements, and how you will contribute to the Tyler School of Art and Architecture’s mission. Submit your statement through Tyler’s application portal.

Curriculum vitae is required.

Official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended must be sent as part of the online application, including those where no degree was awarded, and courses were taken as an undergraduate or a graduate student.

All other admission requirements, including submission of scores for a standardized test of English, if applicable, still need to be met. In some circumstances, the Graduate Admissions Committee may request additional supplemental application materials or an interview as part of the admissions process.

English Language Proficiency Scores

Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree in a language of instruction other than English, except for those who subsequently earned a master’s degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English proficiency that meet these minimums.

Portfolio Requirements

Portfolios must consist of 20 images representative of the immediate direction of your work. Portfolios are to be uploaded at temple.slideroom.com, as instructed on the website.

SlideRoom requires an additional fee for this service. Original work, slides, CD-ROMs, catalogs, photographs, books and/or binders are not acceptable substitutes for the SlideRoom portfolio and will not be reviewed or returned.
